Hugh Jackman returned as Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’ with Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds announced on social media that Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. Deadpool 3 also has an official release date: September 6, 2024.

“Hey everyone, we’re so sad to lose D23, but we’ve been working hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ movie for a long time now,” Reynolds says in the video, referring to the D23 show in early September. “I had to really look in my soul for this. His MCU debut obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, and meaning. Every Deadpool movie needs to stand out and stand out. He’s It was an incredible challenge that forced me to go deeper. And I… I don’t have anything. Yes, just completely empty here. And terrifying. But we have one idea.”

“Hey, Hugh, do you want to play Wolverine again?” asks Reynolds as Jackman walks in the background.

Jackman replies: “Yeah, sure, Ryan.” The video ends with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” – subtitled as “I Will Always Love You.” huh– and a ‘Coming Hughn’ teaser. The Deadpool logo appears, then is quickly chopped up by Wolverine adamantium claws.

Sean Levy, who made “Free Guy” and “The Adam Project” with Reynolds, is directing “Deadpool 3,” which will officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who penned the first two Deadpool films, are back to write the third. Reese previously confirmed that “Deadpool 3” will still be rated R, even within the family-friendly MCU.

It was the last time X-Men fans saw Jackman as Wolverine in the 2016 R-rated “Logan,” directed by James Mangold. The famous Wolverine died at the end of the film, and Jackman repeatedly stated that the film was his swan song in this role. So it’s unclear how he will appear in Deadpool 3. But the character is notorious for breaking the fourth wall over and over – in the movie and in the comics – and as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently said diverse, “Anything is possible in the multiverse.”

Reynolds and Jackman have a long history of superheroes together. The “Deadpool” star debuted as a character in the widely criticized 2009 “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” which was the first “X-Men” spin-off to focus on the Jackman character. This version of Deadpool, however, has his mouth shut and doesn’t appear in his famous red and black costume. Several years later, Reynolds got another round as a wise killer in a proper R-rated “Deadpool.”

The “Deadpool” films are among the highest-grossing “X-Men” titles of all time, each grossing over $780 million worldwide. The first two films, which premiered in 2016 and 2018, respectively, were released by 20th Century Fox before Disney acquired the studio.

Meanwhile, “Logan” director James Mangold, who ended the famous Wolverine story once and for all (or so we used to believe), has responded to the “Deadpool 3” news with simple gifs….
